About Shannon Duffy, LPCC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) providing virtual therapy in Colorado for individuals and couples navigating relationship conflict, anxiety, grief, and major life transitions. I specialize in working with men and couples where emotional shutdown, overwhelm, or communication breakdown have become recurring patterns.
My work is structured, collaborative, and focused on building emotional steadiness that leads to real change. Therapy is not just about insight-it is about translating understanding into action.

Before becoming a therapist, I earned a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with extensive training in anatomy, physiology, and human performance. That background shapes how I understand stress, emotional flooding, and shutdown not as character flaws, but as nervous system responses that can be strengthened and retrained. The mind–body connection in my work is grounded in science and provides clients with a clear framework for what is happening internally and how to shift it.

I am particularly effective working with men who feel overwhelmed during conflict or unsure how to stay engaged in emotionally charged conversations. Many were never taught how to identify emotions or regulate stress in relational settings. In therapy, we build emotional tolerance, clarity, and confidence so that difficult conversations no longer feel threatening or paralyzing.
Throughout my career, I have worked in diverse and high-intensity environments, including teaching in underserved communities and leading cross-cultural educational programs. These experiences strengthened my ability to remain calm, direct, and grounded while guiding complex conversations toward productive outcomes.
I have also lived in South America for many years, where I learned Spanish and immersed myself in a multicultural environment. Living abroad deepened my understanding of identity, adaptation, and the subtle pressures people carry when navigating different cultural contexts. I value the nuance that culture, language, and environment bring into relationships. Are you considering moving abroad? Learn more about support during international moves →
My approach is steady, organized, and engaged. When conversations become circular or emotionally flooded, I step in to create clarity and direction. For couples, this often means shifting pursue-withdraw cycles and helping both partners stay present in difficult conversations. For individuals, our work is depth-oriented-examining formative experiences, core beliefs, and internal narratives to determine what still serves you and what no longer does. Change then becomes intentional. Insight must be integrated into real life. Over time, clients experiences greater clarity, self-trust, emotional alignment, and a deeper sense of living in accordance with who they genuinely are.
